Description
A square-notched knife designed for the southwest , the Gers came in several sizes, with or without a front bolster. Its handle was made of horn, red horn, buffalo or drawn bone, and, like the Yatagan Basque, could have several prominent rosettes. Marketed from the 19th century, its general shape is reminiscent of its Agenais neighbor .
Although its manufacture has been discontinued, some cutlers still reproduce this model from old templates.
The model presented here is a stylized version by artisan cutler David Ponson, from a family of Thiernois Artisan Fabricant Couteliers handed down from father to son since 1847. The blade is in RWL34 stainless steel, the handle is in buffalo split leather, and the spring is a flat notch.
