Description

Folding Basque knife inspired by the shape of the Makila, a traditional Basque stick. Created in our workshop since 2009. The model presented honors the pilgrim of Santiago de Compostela.

In the Basque Country, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is a major city on the route to Compostela. Considered the departure point for Spain, it opens onto the Pyrenees and its crossing.

Several routes are open to you. From Bétharram to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the Piémont Pyrénéen route crosses Béarn and the Basque country over plains and hills, a balcony overlooking the Pyrenees. The Voie du Puy covers 1530 km from Le Puy to Compostelle, 130 km of which crosses Béarn and the Basque Country from the small village of Arzacq-Arraziguet to the Bentarte pass. The Voie d’Arles, 1740 km long, crosses the Pyrenees at Somport in the Vallée d’Aspe. The Voie de Tours covers 40 km between Sorde l’Abbaye and Ostabat, passing through the charming Basque village of Arancou. The Voie d’Ossau leaves from Arudy in the Béarn Pyrenees and crosses the entire Ossau valley to Aragon. The Voie de Vézelay leads from Sault-de-Navailles in Béarn to Saint-Palais in the Basque Country.

This folding knife has a black horn handle engraved with the Basque cross (Lauburu), the cross of St. James, the scallop shell, the emblem of pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela, the word Compostela, Spanish for Compostela, and the motto “Nere Bideko Laguna” (my fellow traveller in Basque). The blond horn pommel represents the top of the scallop shell.

Blade in unhardened XC75 carbon steel. Dimensions: knife length closed: 125 mm. Open knife length: 220 mm. Fixed and rotating brass ferrules. The top of the blade is guilloched with seven “E” for Euskal Herri (Basque Country) and its seven provinces.

The knife pictured is the one you will receive!
