Two artisans, two journeys, one shared standard of excellence

For over twenty years, Christophe and Séverine have shaped the identity of Couteau Basque together, in a workshop where every gesture matters. Their work is built on a rare complementarity, born of a passion for the craft and a shared vision of artisanal cutlery.

Working hand in hand, they shape blades, handles, and assemblies in a constant dialogue between tradition and precision.

Christophe forges, designs, and carries forward a cutlery heritage deeply rooted in history. Séverine shapes, assembles, fine-tunes, and guides each creation through to its completion. Together, they share the same attention to detail, respect for materials, and appreciation for work done right.

More than an artisan duo, they embody a human, attentive, and sincere approach to cutlery-making, where transmission, listening, and the encounter with the customer are an integral part of the craft.

Christophe, a cutler by passion and by heritage

A seasoned collector since the 1990s, Christophe has travelled the roads of France in search of the folding knives used by our fathers and grandfathers. This patient and passionate quest led him to study, understand, and preserve the forms, mechanisms, and uses of regional knives.

A descendant of Michel Tissot, a grinder in 1828, Christophe follows a lineage of blade artisans. Today a Master Artisan Cutler and Companion of the Cutlers’ Brotherhood of Thiers, he places his expertise at the service of a demanding cutlery tradition, respectful of its heritage.

Séverine, an Artisan Cutler and a pillar of the workshop

An Artisan Cutler, Séverine works alongside Christophe in the Couteau Basque workshop. She is involved at every essential stage: shaping horn and wooden handles, blade assembly, finishing, sales, and customer relations.

Passionate, attentive, and warm, she brings a human and sensitive dimension to both the creations and the welcome they receive. Always attentive to each individual, Séverine guides clients in their choices, explains the techniques and the history behind each model, and supports every project with care and dedication.

Our mission: preserving the authenticity of the Basque knife

Our mission is both simple and demanding: to craft authentic, durable, and sincere knives, in respect of traditional gestures. Every forged blade, every shaped handle, and every assembly made in the workshop is part of a commitment to transmission.

We stand for an artisanal approach to cutlery, far removed from standardized mass production, where time, the human hand, and raw materials still have their rightful place.

Our vision: a living, human, and sustainable cutlery craft

We believe in a cutlery tradition that endures over time without denying its roots. A craft that engages in dialogue with its territory—the Basque Country—and adapts to today’s uses while respecting the heritage of yesterday.

Our vision is that of an open workshop, attentive and welcoming, where every client can understand the story behind their knife, choose, exchange, and leave with a meaningful, one-of-a-kind piece.
