This folding knife dating from 1722 is engraved on the lintel of a house in Cambo-Les-Bains in the Basque Country. Its shape echoes that of the traditional Basque discoid stele.

DESCRIPTION

This folding knife dating from 1722 is engraved on the lintel of a house in Cambo-Les-Bains in the Basque Country.

Its shape echoes that of the traditional Basque discoidal stele. It features a so-called “2-nail” system, with a pin to allow the blade to open and close, and a stop to arrest it in the open position.

Mexican bocote wood handle. Blade in unhardened XC75 carbon steel. Guillochage on blade.

Engraving of the Basque cross (Lauburu) on the left-hand stele. Dimensions: closed knife length: 100 mm. Open knife length: 175 mm.
