DESCRIPTION

This Basque Cross, or Lauburu (in Basque, Lau means “Four” and Buru “Head”), was crafted at the Couteau Basque workshop in Anglet by Séverine and Christophe Lauduique from 64-layer Damascus steel. Shaped by hand, the various folds that form it are clearly visible.

This cross formed by four commas refers to the cycle of life, the rotation of the sun, sky and earth. It’s one of the essential symbols of the Basque Country. The Basque Cross can have its commas facing either right or left. In Basque culture, it brings good luck and good fortune to houses that proudly bear it on their facades.

Our Basque Cross, in 64-layer forged Damascus steel, can be worn around the neck with a fine leather strap, or as a keyring with a stainless steel ring.

The leather strap and stainless steel ring are supplied with our forged Damascus Basque Cross. The diameter of our Basque Cross is 4cm (40mm).

This forged Damascus is made of carbon steel, so if you wear it as a pendant, it’s advisable to clean it regularly with a soft cloth.
