DESCRIPTION

The Yatagan Gascon is an early form of folding knife made mainly in the Gers, Landes, Hautes-Pyrénées and Pyrénées-Atlantiques (Béarn) regions.

It features a yatagan-shaped blade, known as “à la catalane”, and a long, curved handle at the end, for a better grip.

It came in a rustic version with a two-nail system, a pin to allow the blade to pivot and a nail to act as a stop in the open position. It was also produced with a square-notch system, which allowed the blade to be semi-blocked in the open position.

This knife was manufactured until the 1930s. Joseph de Pesquidoux describes it in his collection of short stories La Harde, published in 1936. The short story is entitled “Le couteau yatagan”.

The Anglet workshop resurrects this Gascon knife once again. The model presented has a white cow horn handle with prominent stainless steel rosettes. It is engraved with the Gascon cross.

Square lock system. Blade in unhardened XC75 carbon steel. Open: 230mm, closed: 130mm.

Due to handcrafting and the use of natural materials, appearance varies from handle to handle. Images shown are not contractual
