Created for Manufacture Française d’Armes et Cycles in 1906, the Thiers-built Bouledogue was a model designed, according to the catalog of the famous Saint Etienne company, “for people who feel the need to have in their pocket, or in their tool bag, a knife of unfailing solidity for all uses”.
In its early days, this great classic came in two pieces: a strong 27mm-wide blade and a pocketknife-type blade. In 1939, it was offered in two pieces, still with the strong blade and a choice of either a smaller blade or a punch. In 1953, the shape was modernized and remained unchanged until 1980, the last year the Manufrance catalog was published.
In 2004, Issard revived the Bouledogue in its old form, with a corkscrew.
